Welcome! I'm so glad you're here! This is my first official blog post (drum roll, please) as a curator of things and experiences. My goal with this new venture is to share finds with you that I have found make life a little better. I may be a humble connoisseur in some of the categories that I will be sharing with you... though as I learn more about anything, I find that there's usually more to learn! I go by "Brooke", my middle name. I'm not sure why my family chose to call me by my middle name instead of my first name, Juliana, as it's quite confusing sometimes. I grew up in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia, and, in the winter of '97 (during my senior year of high school) we moved to Isle of Palms, South Carolina. I now live in Suwanee, Georgia (near Atlanta) with my partner, Ryan, and my youngest daughter Isla. Since I was a young child I wanted to have a family of my own. I vividly remember thinking that being an adult was so far away... almost unreachable! My friends and I played a game called "MASH" whenever we were together. We would tell what kind of house we wanted to live in, what kind of car we wanted to drive, who we wanted our husband to be, wedding colors, etc. Ha! I remember wanting to have a big, nice house, with all of the nicest decorations, yummy food, all of the things that make a really nice house a really nice home.
I started considering becoming a tastemaker/curator a year-ish ago, and, as with any big life choice, I questioned the idea. I'm a homemaker and I love being a homemaker! I went to school on and off after high school, unsure of what path I would go on. I worked in restaurants and started a business or two. I became a mom in 2002 to Aris, who now lives in New York. I love being a mom! I, by far, consider being a mom my greatest accomplishment and most fulfilling work I've done.
I've always really enjoyed fashion, for myself and my family. I have always (even as a child) appreciated things like quality fabrics and well made clothes and shoes. My great-grandmother Janice was a seamstress and instilled in me an appreciation for quality. I have learned that some things are worth splurging on!
We are living in a rented townhome right now, as we are almost ready to buy a house. So exciting! I really enjoy decorating and making an impressive and comfortable home. I also very much look forward to entertaining in our new home and will share some good home and entertaining finds with you soon!
Makeup is one of those things that I've used the basics like good mascara and a good lip moisturizer, and only recently have I really researched things like foundation and eyeshadow, etc. I've tried some really great ones and some not so great ones. I enjoy learning and experimenting with new finds and look forward to sharing with you and learning from y'all, too. I also have an appreciation for great beauty products. I'm at the age where a good moisturizer and a bad moisturizer are a thing.
Hair products, in my opinion, are awesome. I have very fine, thin hair, so I have to be really careful with my hair and make sure I use great products... and I've had some really bad experiences with bad products (shame on y'all) and I've had some great experiences with some great products. I'm still learning about different hair products and look forward to sharing my experience with you.
Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. I love quality family time and I love having new experiences together. I look forward to sharing our travels with you, places to go, places to stay, yummy food, family friendly activities, etc.
When social media first became a thing (not that long ago y'all), I must admit, I was hesitant. So, if someone would've told me I'd be a "social media influencer" I might have laughed at them. I have really grown to appreciate how social media connects and inspires, so I'm grateful to have the opportunity to start a new career doing just that. I look forward to connecting with those of you whom I haven't met, and reconnecting with friends and family with this work. Please reach out if you're inspired to, if you have any questions or comments, or ideas that you think may inspire me. I'm grateful for the community we can build together, and look forward to making our lives a little better with my work! Thank you for reading this, and enjoy!
Best,
Brooke
